Summary
The novel is divided into three sections and is narrated in the third-person past with a focus on Angrboda. In Part One, the narrator begins the story by telling us that long ago, when the gods were young, there was a witch named Gullveig skilled in seid, a magic that gave her the power to travel out of her body and into the future. The witch was a giant who lived amongst the Aesir in Asgard, and Odin appreciated her gifts. He offered to teach her how to use runes in exchange for her teaching him how to perform seid.
