Summary

Chapter 7 is titled “The Clay Pot.” Ned rushes to the village square as the musicians play the anthem in anticipation of the queen's arrival. The queen's carriage hurtles over the bridge and under the arch. The queen is slumped over. A man in the carriage seems indifferent. A woman shouts for help. Sister Witch summons the magic from its place at her house. She calls on it to “Fix the broken places” in the queen (42). She then orders it to do so. The queen takes a few minutes to revive. Sister Witch has repaired the queen's heart. Sister Witch can barely walk home. Ned and the woodcutter know they cannot touch her while she is imbued with the magic.
