Redwood, California

Lucy lives in Redwood as the novel opens. She has fled there after leaving her home in Maine. She lives in a run down and messy house with roommates which the social worker deems insufficient for Christopher. She works as a teacher’s aid in California and has dreams to adopt Christopher. Her life here is stagnating.

Clock Island

Clock Island is a fictional location that Jack Masterson has created. It is off the shore of Maine. On the island, each number on a clock represents a place. The Mastermind lives on the island in the Clock Island books. Jack creates a real island base off of this, and this is where the contest takes place that Lucy participates in.
