Sorell argues through her novel The Wise Women that what works for one woman in a relationship does not work for every woman. Various relationship styles are demonstrated throughout the course of the novel. Arianna follows Samantha’s relationship program because she believes it is a foolproof way to get a husband. Wendy suggests that Clementine return to her husband after he betrayed her, even though Wendy left her own husband. Samantha tries to take charge of her relationship with Todd, but she breaks off the relationship when he betrays her.
