Summary
In Chapter 1, a piece of advice from Wendy Wise indicates that nothing says love like owning real estate together. It is next indicated that the wife should be a part of the process for purchasing the house or else she might be in for a “nasty surprise” (1).
Clementine was waiting for Steve, her husband, to get home to ask him why the air conditioner repair man had not arrived yet. While she was waiting, Mr. Gregoris, who had formerly owned their home, came asking to speak to Steve. Clementine was proud of her historic home and proud of the fact that she had been able to buy it, even though she had to borrow money from her sister, Barb, to finance the purchase.
