Summary

In Chapter 61, Kvothe returned to Severen to find Maer Alveron miserable in bed. Kvothe gave Alveron several ingredients he had picked up to mend his symptoms. The Maer told Kvothe to keep his ring. Kvothe worried that if Alveron died from withdrawal, everyone in Severen would blame Kvothe.

In Chapter 62, Kvothe and Bredon talked over a game of tak. Later, a boy came to Kvothe’s room with the Maer’s iron ring and a card that said “Immediately” on it. Kvothe went to Alveron’s room. The Maer felt better and noted that his birds had not gotten ill from Caudicus’ medicine. He sent Kvothe to get his medicine from Caudicus. Kvothe asked Caudicus if he knew anything about the Chandrian, but Caudicus dismissed the creatures as mere superstition.
