Knife

The knife is a symbol of fear and the fight response. Even though Maya has moved and tried to become a different person, she realizes how afraid she still is when she believes someone is following her in the park. Ramona gave Maya this knife to protect herself in case she was ever threatened. In her fear, Maya pulls out this knife.
