Part One: Chapters 10-14 Summary
LuAnn disembarks off of the train at Penn Station in New York City. She is amazed at the hustling scene around her. LuAnn was greeted by a man Jackson had sent to accompany her. Although he seemed a competent guide, LuAnn was uncomfortable with his stoic demeanor. After much prodding he relented, saying that she could call him Charlie. He escorted her to her suite at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and checked her in under the false name of Linda Freeman. Charlie had been working for Jackson for quite some time. He had guided many other lottery winners through the process, but he felt that LuAnn was different. She was inquisitive, friendly and well meaning but not entirely naive.
