Section 5: Chapters 8-9 Summary

In Chapter 8, Anderson discusses the ngaws with other calorie men and women while sitting at Sir Francis Drake's, but when Richard Carlyle arrives, the two farang discuss their recent losses. Carlyle has just come from talking to Akkarat, and he assures Anderson that the news is about to turn in their favor because the Environment Ministry is expecting replacement equipment which is located in a hangar that Carlyle owns, reminding the white shirts that they need outsiders. Carlyle insists that Akkarat's generals can protect him, asking if Anderson wants to participate in the deal since he knows about Anderson's investors. Having talked to Raleigh who depends on him for aging treatments, Carlyle also knows of Anderson's interest in the seedbank, and he wants to discuss certain propositions with Anderson's people.
