Samuel Adler aka Mr. Bogart
Samuel Adler, named Mr. Bogart by Nadine, is the son of Rudolph and Rachel Adler. Samuel was born a Jew, but he was never active in his religion after he was separated from his parents. Samuel was only six years old when he was sent to England on the Kindertransport to keep him safe from the Nazis. Both his parents were killed in concentration camps. Samuel did not learn his parents’ fate until his first day of college.
As a child, Samuel was passed from home to home after he arrived in England because he was small, sickly, and unable to help much with chores. Finally, Samuel was placed in an orphanage where he almost died from pneumonia. A Quaker couple who had been visiting Samuel in the orphanage adopted him when he recovered. They raised Samuel and became his family.
