Chapters 15 and 16 Summary

Briar takes out two knives and waits for Tris to arrive. When she does, they descend for some time, talking to Sandry mentally to keep her calm. Tris thrusts open the next door and quickly binds each guard with a ring of lightning around their necks. Another door leads to a cove underneath the cliff and Tris realizes they planned to escape by boat. Briar touches the box, calling the life in the planks and it soon falls apart, then Tris transports them to Berenene's wing of the castle. Ishabal gives the Empress a note from Sandry requesting an immediate audience, telling her that Sandry looks battered. The Empress is stunned when she learns the truth.
