Summary
In Chapter 35, Vanessa wishes she could have given her notebook to Emma but recalls how it had been destroyed. One morning she had awoken at 3 a.m. and had gone to the guest bedroom to write in her book. When she swept her arm under the mattress the notebook was gone. She sensed Richard standing behind her. He had the notebook in his hand.
Richard said the pen on the nightstand had given her away. He knew if there was a pen she had to be writing in something and had searched until he had found it. He told her the accusations in the book were psychotic, that she was worse than her mother. He tore pages out of the book and then ordered her to clean up the mess.
