Summary

In Chapter 19, Vanessa tells the new girlfriend, who is named Emma, that she used to be like Emma before she married Richard. Emma worked as Richard’s assistant. Richard left Vanessa for her less than a year after he met Emma. Vanessa tries to warn Emma that Richard will hurt her if she goes ahead with the wedding. Emma indicates that Richard had told her that Vanessa was jealous and would try to persuade her not to marry Richard. Hoping to use an example from their final cocktail party Emma told Vanessa the wine was not there because Richard did not order it. Emma corrects her, saying she knew the wine was ordered because she placed the order.
