Summary
In Chapter 8, Vanessa imagines Richard’s new wife pregnant. She remembers the teddy bear that he put in the room they had designated at their nursery. He said it was their good luck charm. As agreed, Richard had gone for a sperm count test when they had not become pregnant after six months. He reported there was nothing wrong on his end. Vanessa had tried to discourage him from going to her appointment with a fertility specialist but he insisted. He was angry when he learned she had been pregnant before, something she had never told him. She lied and said she’d had a miscarriage. When they left the appointment, Richard did not speak to Vanessa in the elevator. His phone rang and he told her he needed to take the call and would see her later.
