Jude introduces herself as the seneschal to Prince Cardan, but she is actually in control of him and therefore, the government. Jude is a mortal girl who grew up in a series of brutal situations. When she was young, Madoc murdered Jude's biological parents, both human. Jude has lived in Faerieland in Madoc's home ever since. While Taryn has learned to fit in and Vivienne spends all her time fighting the life and the authority in Elfhame, Jude fights to find her place. Humans have two basic avenues available in this fantasy world – marriage or servitude. However, Jude wants to become a knight. Toward that end, she has spent hours in training, honing the skills that were necessary to become a knight. She fights well, even against huge odds, and she is a good strategist. Though she hates Madoc, he is largely responsible for her training.
