Summary
In Chapter 25, Jude is trying to figure out Cardan's motives for saving her from the Undersea as she walks toward the palace. She is so weak that the walk is a struggle. There, a guard refuses to allow her in, citing Madoc's orders barring her. Jude goes to the passage that would allow her access to the tunnels used by the spies, but discovers it has been collapsed. With no other option apparent, she goes to the Hollow Hall. She immediately sees the red moths dancing around Balekin's head, a symbol that he murdered his father. Balekin says Jude will have the chance to poison Cardan at an upcoming masquerade party. Jude accepts the vial of poison.
