Summary

In Chapter 36, after Tom dropped Jake off at school, he went with Karen for coffee. Tom lowered his defenses and told Karen everything about the past few days including the discovery of the body, the attempt to abduct Jake, and his father’s appearance back in his life. After Karen left, Tom realized he knew little about her.

In Chapter 37, the man was sitting in the coffee shop as well, listening to the conversation between Tom and a woman. He heard Tom say that Jake was not an easy child and that the two of them had trouble talking to each other. The man believed he could give Jake the care he deserved. The man was pleased when he remembered that he had killed Neil because he believed Neil deserved to die.
