Summary
In Chapter 29, Tom was unnerved when a policeman took him to pick up Jake from school because it meant that the threat to Jake was real. The officer, John Dyson, instructed Tom to act normally. Tom could not help but admit that he was unnerved by his son who had drawn the butterflies and known about the boy in the floor.
At school, Tom learned that Jake had gotten in trouble for hitting Owen. Jake explained that Owen had tried to take his Packet of Special Things, and that he had not meant to hit him. At the moment, the situation seemed laughable and trivial. He wanted to tell Jake that he had done well. Instead, Tom told the teacher that he and Jake would discuss better ways for Jake to stand up for himself against bullies. Jake looked at him oddly.
