Summary
In Chapter 15, Carter informed Pete that he knew Pete had come because of the boy who had been abducted recently. Pete said that he did not think that Carter had anything to do with that death ,but Carter indicated “it always comes back to me for you, doesn’t it? It always ends where it starts” (80). Pete became frustrated with Carter when he realized that Carter was going to tell him nothing worthwhile.
Pete was on his way out of the room when Carter suggested that the news journalists might be interested in the whispers. Pete returned because someone had told Carter about the whispers that Neil had heard. Knowing he had Pete’s attention, Carter said he would tell Pete what he knew if Pete would bring Carter’s wife and son to him. Pete was surprised by the amount of anger...
