Summary
Chapter 18 returns to Adolin's first person narration as he talks with several leather workers about the broken strap from King Elhokar's saddle. The leather workers agree that the strap had been cut but that it could have resulted from a buckle rubbing against it in the wrong way and no one noticing, as that was the most common reason. Adolin reflects on this conclusion and is slightly annoyed by Janala, the woman he is courting, who has joined him for a walk. Janala tries to get Adolin to ask his father to stop imposing the dress code of the Alethi War Codes so that the men can dress more fashionably.
