Summary
Chapter 10 is titled “The Next Mourning.” Yehuda Leib sleeps in the alley. Bluma sleeps at the synagogue with Rokhl. The Dark Messenger slept in an empty grave (though it did not usually sleep at all). Back in Tupik, Issur cannot sleep because he keeps thinking about killing Avimelekh. He returns to the forest, planning to bury the body. The body is not there. He discovers Yehuda Leib's red scarf on the ground. At dawn, he is in the cemetery burying the scarf and the coin Yehuda Leib gave him. Meanwhile, Bluma wakes alone. She realizes she cannot run from Death. Outside, Bluma discovers hundreds of people praying for the Rebbe. Bluma joins Yehuda Leib and explains why her face is different. Yehuda Leib is not entirely sure what happened to him.
