Summary

In the passages from the Welcome Book, one woman recalls being spit upon by men, while another explains her decision to “take matters into [her] own hands” (193).

Lia wakes up alone in her bed, draws a bath, and cuts herself on the thigh. Over breakfast, Llew lectures the sisters about their diets. Sky asks Grace to cut her hair short. Lia protests, but Grace agrees. Afterwards, Grace tells Sky she looks pretty, and not to let the men “take liberties” (170). Lia goes out to the garden to cry, and she is discovered by James. They discuss sibling relationships.
