Summary

In these early chapters the reader meets Peter and his sister Jennifer (whom he calls Jenny). She is four years old and wants to know what her brother is doing at the kitchen table. He tells her that he is writing a story about when Grandpa Jack came to live with them. She reminds Peter that he found out about Grandpa coming to live with them through her; that she was the first to know the secret and that she had shared it with him. He remembers and tells her that he will most definitely put that in his story. His teacher, Mrs. Klein has given the class an assignment to write a real life story about something special that happened to them.
