Summary

Chapter 29 begins with a park ranger finding Molly’s mutilated corpse in the forest. There is then a meticulously detailed description, through the eyes of the coroner, of her corpse. Corey is not invited to Molly’s funeral. The investigation implicates Adrian in her murder. Adrian suggests Corey may be responsible. Corey calls Adrian and accuses him of the murder. Their friendship ends and Corey recalls how when they first became friends, he was in awe of how Adrian “pursued self-strengthening without anxiety, feeling only entrancement” (369). Meanwhile, Tom drinks heavily in the ensuing weeks. Corey visits him and tells him he knows where Adrian lives; both he and Tom are convinced Adrian is guilty.
