Chapter Three Summary

Reeve, Vinnie, Cal and Derek listen to Reeve's hour again without the commercial breaks afterward. Thirty-nine calls come in, wanting more, and this is only Reeve's first night. He watches Derek on the air, absorbing technique and style. Vinnie instructs him to maintain the same format for the following night, and Cal wonders if they should only have him on twice a week, to keep the audience primed and wanting more. Reeve just sits there, enjoying that they are talking about him. He feebly tries to make this his first and last 'Janie' broadcast, understanding with sudden clarity how horrified she would be if she heard, but when they tell him he has style, and is a natural, his own ego surpasses any need for privacy that Janie might feel. They soothe his nerves by assuring him that she'll never hear...
