Summary

The kids return home with their pastries and prepare tea for Mr. Beiderman’s special breakfast in bed. They carry the breakfast upstairs to his door, but Jessie drops the tray and all of the dishes shatter. They leave the destroyed breakfast outside Mr. Beiderman’s door. Jessie is comforted by her mother and she tells her how much she does not want to move out of their home. Mama begins to cry.

In Chapter 7, the kids head back downstairs to eat their breakfast together. They all feel as though they have failed their mission, and they do not feel hopeful that they will be able to accomplish their goals.
