Pages 53-112 Summary
Jimmy Sr. feels like he has some pressure on him that will not go away. It reminds him of when he was a kid and had done something bad. His mother would say, "You wait 'til your father hears about this." Jimmy Sr. knew that meant he would be punished with his father's belt. His father didn't wear a belt, but just kept one for strapping Jimmy Sr. and his brothers. Jimmy would go through the whole day scared to death, waiting for his father to come home, praying that he'd go for a pint first or get knocked down by a car or fall into a machine at work or have a heart attack, anything that would delay the strapping he knew was coming. He feels the same sort of apprehension now, and doesn't know why.
