The Awakening, Chapters 1-2 Summary
The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith is the coming of age tale of a young high school student (Elena Gilbert) who has to negotiate her growing feelings for a mysterious newcomer to town, Stefan Salvatore. Through the course of the two books, The Awakening and The Struggle, we accompany Elena as she finds out that she is caught in a centuries-old feud between the vampires Stefan and his brother Damon, both fighting for her affections. It is through facing these challenges that she comes to understand her own feelings and learn more about what true love and sacrifice really is.
