Chapters 7-9 Summary

In Chapter 7, Ayla continues her preparations for winter with the little foal following her everywhere she goes. Ayla decides the horse needs a name. Ayla names the horse Whinney after a sound the horse often makes while Ayla is speaking to her. Ayla performs a shortened version of the naming ceremony Creb performed when he named Ayla's son. This memory brings on a wave of grief, causing Ayla to cry but also to appreciate her new companion. Ayla has been sleeping on the beach with the horse but decides to give the horse a warm place to sleep in her cave. Later that night, Ayla is filled with a dark premonition, convinced something bad is about to happen.
