Summary
In Chapter 8, four days after Edward’s death a lawyer comes to Violet with papers saying that she and her daughter Flora are the legal recipients of his fortune. She relies on Lu Shing to tell Edward’s parents about his death.
Two and one half years later the real Minerva Lamp Ivory comes with a lawyer and takes Flora away from Violet. They can charge her with impersonation, embezzlement, fraud and theft but will drop the charges if she agrees to give them Flora. Violet has no proof of her Flora being her daughter as it is Minerva’s name that appears on the birth certificate.
