Summary

Violet becomes sick with the same illness as Magic Gourd. When she begins to get better, Edward tells her he’s sent Lu Shing a letter chiding him for not saying who he really was. Lu Shing writes back saying he wants Violet to inherit the house but that she must admit he is her father. Violet is torn but admits they must stay there so they will have a roof over their heads if Edward’s family were to ever disown him. After Magic Gourd and Violet recover completely from their illness, a new wave of influenza breaks out. Edward is sick for a day and the family believes they are all now out of danger of further sickness. The baby is born in February. Edward chooses the name Flora.
