Faith’s apartment is the only setting for both stories. In “The Used-Boy Raisers,” Faith and her ex-husbands spend time together in the kitchen, eating bad eggs and searching for alcohol while they discuss politics, relationships, and religion. In “A Subject of Childhood,” Faith’s boyfriend, Clifford, struggles to care for Faith’s children, and Faith contemplates the woes of parenthood.
