Escape
The Escape cruise ship is a symbol of liberation. Although Greta initially regards the ship as a prison, over the course of her week on board, she soon realizes that the vessel was aptly named. The Escape grants her the opportunity to temporarily detach from her life on land and thus to sort through her emotional and psychological difficulties. Being away from home and the pressures of her career grants her a sense of perspective and renewal, all of which is made possible by the ship.
"Astronomy" Song
Greta's song "Astronomy," is a symbol of grief. When Greta first performs the song after Helen's death, she suffers a break down on stage. The song then becomes symbolic of failure in Greta's mind.
