Chapter 1, Page 70 Summary and Analysis

This book begins with very short chapters. The author is incredibly clear and brief. The first 9 chapters cover only 50 pages. The next chapters are longer. The time is 1963. Mark Donohue has been racing for 3 years. Then, he grows so discouraged that he almost completely stops. The source of his discouragement is the Daimler. He is fed up. The car does not work well enough. He continues working as a mechanical engineer. He tells readers that he very nearly becomes "just a normal engineer" instead of an engineer/race car driver. In the next chapter he has one car that is "perfectly balanced" but it takes him ten years to fully appreciate what a difference this makes. He also has a vehicle that has a problem with the chassis. The company kindly sends a replacement.
