Chapters 18 through 23 Summary
In chapter eighteen, Farrell almost shoots the woman in the doorway but Mrs. Pollifax intervenes. They go to the house and the woman disappears inside. They follow and find there is a man and a young boy at the house as well. The woman feeds the three and provides clothing. Though there is a language barrier, they come to understand that Mrs. Pollifax, the Chinese man who escaped with them and the man of the house are going to crawl in the midst of the herd of goats to the lower pasture, which is out of sight of the compound on the cliff above. Anyone watching from there will see only a man and a boy driving the goats as is their typical morning ritual.
