Summary
At the start of Chapter 9, Lewis quotes Danny as saying that his professional collaboration with Amos was like being in love. In 1973, Amos and Danny both returned to Israel to fight in what later became known as the Yom Kippur War. They were assigned to the psychology field unit. Danny and Amos travelled around in a jeep with a questionnaire designed to come up with ways to improve troop morale, an exercise Danny considered to be pointless. Danny made recommendations based on his observations about rations and helped to change the way tank drivers and pilots were trained. After the war, Danny was appointed to help review the decisions made by Israeli intelligence but when he presented his report to the Foreign Ministry they were not interested.
