Chapters 41 through 48 Summary

Chapter forty-one is the first chapter of the section titled "Outlaw." Michael, Peter, and Lore are rescued the day after their explosion. It takes them a day to return to Kerrville. Peter is questioned at length and learns that Amy broke Greer out of jail. Peter describes the woman he saw when the tanker convoy was attacked and learns from a military colonel named Apgar that the woman was also seen on the day of the Massacre of the Field. Apgar says sixteen people were apparently "taken up" by the virals that day. Apgar and Peter talk some more with Apgar giving a great deal of information that seems to be coincidence but add up to something more. He then tells Peter that the paperwork sending Peter to a new assignment has been "misplaced" and that Peter has about three days...
