Summary
In “Seven, Eight, Nine,” when Loo was born, Hawley was afraid to hold his daughter and covered his fear by taking a Polaroid of his wife and daughter together.
On a particularly hard day, the day of Loo’s christening, Lily lost her temper with Hawley because of his unwillingness to help with the baby. Lily said she was tired of being a mother and a wife, and needed to be alone for a while. When Hawley asked what he should do to make Loo stop crying Lily told him to figure it out.
Hawley tried everything he could think of to get her to quiet but had no luck. He kept looking out the window for Lily, hoping she would return. Hawley poured himself some whiskey to calm his nerves. He dipped a finger in the whiskey and offered...
