Kamala Harris
Kamala is the author of The Truths We Hold and the point-of-view the reader follows throughout. As the daughter of Shyamala and Donald Harris, Kamala was raised to appreciate activism and helping others. She trained to become a lawyer at Howard University and was eventually sworn in at the Alameda County Superior Courthouse. Over time, she began to run for elected office, eventually winning a position as the district attorney of California, then state senator many years later. Throughout her life, Kamala fought for criminal reform. This included things such as progressive prosecution, fixing the bail system, and stopping elementary truancy to prevent crimes in the future. She even turned down a position in Obama’s cabinet to continue her work in California.
