Summary
In Chapter Five: I Say We Fight, Kamala remembers when she celebrated the election of the first female senators from California, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, in 1992. Twenty-two years later in 2015, Barbara posted a video of her talking about issues that she had been fighting for three decades. This includes a stronger middle class, women's rights, the environment, and human rights. However, she decided she would not be running for reelection after two decades of service. Kamala had to decide if she would run in Barbara’s place. She felt it was an extension of what she was already fighting for and announced her candidacy in January 2015. Kamala ended up in a runoff against Democrat Loretta Sanchez, but Kamala’s team helped her win.
