Summary
In Chapter 11, Willa stops suddenly when she notices her father's car since none of the nearby storefronts look like places she would expect him to visit. As she waits in the car to surprise him, she observes his briefcase and considers asking him to show her all the valuable chemicals inside, but noise behind the car draws her attention to Felix exiting Cooey's Red Apple with three other men who she assumes are buying chemicals from him. After they leave, Uncle Emmett passes and finds Willa in the car, but when she questions him about Felix, he advises her not to ask questions if she will not like the answers. At home, Jottie grows infuriated when Willa asks about first families because Mr. Davies' list makes Willa feel ashamed.
