The Origin of Evil manuscript
The Origin of Evil manuscript is symbolic of Harry’s guilt, not for the murder but for claiming the manuscript as his own work and having it published. The Origin of Evil was originally written by Luther but stolen upon Luther’s death by Harry for publishing because Harry did not believe he could write a novel as good as Luther’s. Pratt and Travis bury a copy of the manuscript with Nola’s body in an effort to hide it. Harry is linked to the murder because of the manuscript. However, his real suffering stems from the massive guilt he feels because he knows the breakthrough in his career is not his. It is the origin of evil –the origin of the unethical things Harry has done in pursuit of fame and fortune.
