Summary

At Mrs. Morton’s residence, “Number Three Rowan Tree Croft (15 July 1976),” Grace and Tilly escape Grace’s parents continued bickering and decide to visit Walter Bishop’s house. At first Tilly refuses, but Grace threatens to ask Lisa Dakin instead. Tilly, worried she will lose her best friend, gives in to Grace’s demand.

As the two girls approach Walter’s house at “Number Eleven, The Avenue (15 July 1976),” Grace and Tilly are afraid and feel a long way from home. Through a window, Grace sees a crucifix and believes they have finally found where God lives. Tilly is not as certain. They meet up with Walter and tell them about their search.
