Summary

In Chapter 19, despite her efforts to forget Rae, Sammar continued dreaming about him. In all of the dreams, he was either too busy to talk to her, or regarded her with "a cold look" (163). Whenever Yasmin wrote to Sammar, she hoped Yasmin would mention him. She tried "not to ask about him" when she replied (163). She felt as if she were in exile, living in a place where no one knew him, and she could not speak about him (164). She imagined all the questions her family would ask if she mentioned him. She kept telling herself to live her new life, and to stop thinking about him. She remained distracted and detached.
