Summary
In Part 1, Temi arrives at the wife’s house at noon with wine, chips, and cigarettes. Although she is late, the wife forgives her. Being late is Temi’s thing (3). They have been best friends since they were young.
Temi and the wife were supposed to be on vacation together. They have not seen each other in a month. Temi arrives talking about someone she slept with. The wife tries to keep track.
Temi and the wife met when they were 11. After PE, Temi saw the wife drop her deodorant. Because it was dirty, she let the wife borrow hers. Although the wife has sisters, they “have never been close” (7). Temi is more like her sister. She is the only person “who has never wanted something from [her]” (7).
