Summary
Chapter 18 begins with Clare arriving at the Cure Hotel in the mountains. While checking in, Clare noticed most guests were wearing "identical beige tracksuits", which she found out were the "patients" of the hotel (139). The Cure Hotel "specialized in the relief of pain", where the staff considers the patient as a whole, trying to find the root issue, not a quick fix. While waiting for Richard, Clare went to the hotel bar to eat dinner, where she opened up the white cardboard box for the first time to find a reel of film. Halfway through her meal, Clare went to the bathroom, but when she returned, her plate had been switched to the opposite side of the table, causing Clare some anxiety over who moved it and why.
