Summary

As told by Anna 12 months previously, Chapter 17 starts with Anna’s reflection on indulgences. When life is short, there is only one way to live, she thinks. This has been ingrained in her since her mother had been saying so for many years, as well. Anna feels this way about Luke, too. She has indulged herself in the romance and they are becoming very close. She still wants to commit suicide, but Luke is helping to think about her life in a more hopeful way.
