Summary
In Chapter 37, narrated by Alina, shortly after Alina and Saul arrived at the camp, Alina began to suffer with bouts of what she believed was the stomach flu. Saul generally reassured Alina when she was sick. However, one day he commented that he and Eva had not intended to get pregnant with Tikva. He said he realized Eva was pregnant when she was unable to eat a duck Tomasz had roasted for them because it made her sick. He caught Alina as she slid out of her chair when she realized she was pregnant.
