Chapters Eighteen and Nineteen Summary
Levi asks why Boaz won't get in a car or a train or bus. Boaz says he likes to walk which Levi doesn't buy. Finally, Boaz tells Levi about when he and a fellow marine were traveling in a Humvee. Suddenly they struck an improvised explosive device or IED. The truck blew apart. When Boaz found his friend, his torso was laying three feet away from his legs. Since then, Boaz hasn't liked getting into vehicles. He also likes to walk because he can—because he has his legs. Levi walked the rest of the day and didn't use his skateboard. They cross the border into Maryland.
That night he calls Celine again and this time she answers. He tells her that he's two blocks from her aunt's house in Edgewood. As he and Boaz walks...
