In the story “The Thing Around Your Neck” you thought when you went to America that you would have a car and soon have a nice house. Your uncle had put all of the names of your family members in for the American visa lottery. You had won. You would live with him until you were able to support yourself. Your uncle told you America was all about give and take. He helped you get a job at a gas station and enrolled you in community college.
